The Regulatory Framework of Russian Pharmacies

The Russian pharmaceutical market is heavily controlled by the Ministry of Health and the Federal Service for Surveillance in Healthcare (Roszdravnadzor). When it concerns pain management, the guidelines are particularly stringent due to the potential for abuse and dependency related to strong analgesics.

Historically, Russia faced criticism for restrictive policies that made it difficult for terminal and persistent pain clients to gain access to appropriate opioid analgesics. In reaction, legislative reforms were introduced to enhance the prescription procedure, extend prescription credibility durations, and boost domestic production of crucial pain medications.

Drug stores in Russia are strictly classified by their licensing. Not every neighborhood chemist can dispense strong pain relievers.
